Southwest Campus Housing was completed on time in August 2006, despite a fire — caused by a lightning strike — in the north building of the complex.

Planning, Design & Construction once again is to be commended for completing multiple projects on-time and on-budget. Advanced planning by Project Management addresses issues before construction begins, helps keep things on schedule and minimizes change-orders. On-site construction project managers and construction engineers make sure things run smoothly once ground is broken.

With no end in sight to a building boom that began nearly two decades ago, Project Management and Construction Management are proud of their record of turning nearly every project over on-time and on-budget.

"Our peers claim that MU is held to a higher standard in the education industry nationwide," said John Neal, PD&C associate director - Construction Management.

Larry Hubbard, PD&C director, noted that the fire at Southwest Campus Housing could have altered the course of the building's construction and set the opening behind schedule. Most projects built since 2000 — totaling $500 million — have met PD&C's goal of being "on-time and on-budget." Hubbard is seeking to maintain this standing for the nearly $500 million in construction projected through 2011.

Recent major projects completed on-time and on-budget include: Southwest Campus Housing Complex; College Avenue Housing; and the National Swine Resource & Research Center.
