Campus Facilities - Landscape Services Recycling Coordinator Steve Burdic accepts the Missouri Waste Control Coalition's Outstanding Achievement - Education award from incoming MWCC president Kathy MacBeth.

The Missouri Waste Control Coalition has recognized Campus Facilities – Landscape Services' MU Recycling program with an Outstanding Achievement Award in the Education category. The award is presented to a student, an educator, a school, or other educational institution whose efforts have facilitated a better understanding of Missouri's natural environment and/or proper waste management practice.

MWCC, a statewide, nonprofit organization based in Kansas City, promotes safe, effective, and economically sound waste management practices in the State of Missouri. The organization recognized award recipients during its annual conference at Lake of the Ozarks on June 24.

In 2007 Campus Facilities – Landscape Services' recycling program diverted 1,869 tons of paper, cardboard and beverage containers from the landfill. Tiger Treasures, a rummage sale of items donated by departing MU students, diverted 15 tons of material from the landfill and raised $10,000 for the Salvation Army's charitable programs. Tiger Tailgating collected 24 tons of beverage containers from MU home football games. MU also placed 22nd in the nationwide Recyclemania college competition Waste Minimization category.
