Project Initiation
Planning, Design, and Construction manages all new build structures, renovations, repairs and replacements of facilities on the MU campus. If your workplace or building space needs new facilities, additions, changes or improvements to existing physical facilities prior to initiating the project process, our project managers and designers are available for a pre-PRF consultation help you determine the “scope” of the project (the end utility and product sought). These limited consultations are free of charge to all campus clients.

These consultations provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions have regarding your project, including assessing your department's needs, determining the general scope of work, and gaining an approximate idea of the costs involved to accomplish your request.

Requesting a Building Project
Project Initiation began when you recognize the need for upgrades or improvements to your building or department, or need a new facility. You initiate the project related work by submitting the Project Request Form (PRF).

Completing the PRF Form
A Project Request Form (PRF) is required for changes or improvements to a building or for the purchase of equipment that will require physical connection to a building or its utilities. (Please refer to section 12:070 of the Business Policy and Procedure Manual). Completing the PRF is as easy as “Save As” function under the “File” menu, to save the file on your hard drive and open in Word or Wordperfect to edit. Completing the form and return to E111, General Services Building.

The form needs to contain the name of the contact person and requester; funding code and authorized signature; and signatures of the department dean or director and selected administrators on the Chancellor’s staff. This lets us know that the project is supported and approved by campus administration and it serves the Chancellor's staff by providing a means to monitor the requests made by department personnel.The form was developed at the request of members of the Chancellor's staff.

Submitting the PRF Form
This completed form now serves as the work authorization and accounting document for the project. When Planning, Design and Construction receives it, the work is assigned to one of PD&C's three departments: Planning and Design or Construction. Upon assignment a project manager will contact you to make arrangement to begin the project and will work with you to accomplish your goals and serve the best interest of the campus.
