This freestanding, $18.4-million, approximately 31,000 gsf building is under construction just south of the National Swine Research & Resource Center on MU's East Campus. The facility will include research laboratories, a small-animal vivarium, small-animal necropsy rooms, and associated research-support areas. One of only nine such structures in the U.S., the facility will provide critically needed bio-containment space in which to conduct research and training focused on bioterrorism pathogens, and will assist national, state, and local public health officials in the event of a bioterrorism emergency. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease awarded MU a $6.8 million grant toward the construction of this building. Construction began November 2006 and is expected to be completed April 2008.
