Adoption Opportunities

The Mizzou Botanic Garden offers several ways to "adopt" a part of the MU landscape. Adopters can support the campus landscape by adopting a spot, a space, a tree or a bench.

Adopt-A-Spot

A person or a group may select a spot on campus for one-time, intensive landscaping to greatly improve the spot's appearance. After adopters select a spot, they work unsupervised at their own discretion.

To adopt a spot, contact Landscape Services at (573) 882-4240, or send an e-mail.

Adopt-A-Space

Landscape Services is dedicated to providing you with a clean, enjoyable and beautiful campus. Even though we have spent as many as 5,000 hours picking up cigarette butts and other litter on campus, it is not enough and we could use your help.

Through our Adopt-A-Space program you can: improve the environment, increase awareness of the problems caused by litter and cigarette butts, and reduce costs of litter collection, all while gaining some publicity for your organization.

How It Works

Once a month, through the academic year, your organization will perform a clean-up of your adopted area. In return, you will have the satisfaction of performing a valuable community service, improving the campus environment, and saving university funds. In addition, participating organizations will receive recognition in campus newspapers as well as a "Certificate of Participation" at the end of the academic year.

To participate in this project fill out the form at the link below, send an e-mail to Landscape Services or call (573) 882-4240. Remember, spaces are assigned on a first-come and first-serve basis.

Adopt-A-Tree

Enthusiasm continues to run high for the university's Tree Trails, our important educational project. It consists of three walking loops within the heart of campus where visitors are treated to the seasonal delights of 115 varieties of trees. A free, colorful and educational 30-page guide booklet, filled with maps and horticultural details, guides visitors along these paths. It is available at the visitors information booth in the Donald W. Reynolds Alumni Center or by contacting Landscape Services at (573) 882-4240. A printable version is available online.

The educational Tree Trails project needs your help. The Adopt-A-Tree program allows your tax deductible gift of $500 to support the publication of the guide and maintenance of the trees and trails. Adopters are gratefully recognized in the tree trail guide and on the tree identification plaque as supporters of the beauty and benefits trees provide.

Adopting a tree is a solid, lasting investment that supports educational opportunities and increases the appreciation of our environment. To participate, please call (573) 882-4240 for an adoption packet, send an e-mail, or download a printable adoption form.

Adopt-A-Bench

MU's redwood benches are amenities appreciated by visitors and the campus community. Like any outdoor furniture, they require periodic maintenance and repair. By adopting a bench, you can ensure these benches will stay in good shape. Your $5,000 gift will be used to renovate or replace an existing bench. A 2 ½"x5" bronze plaque commemorating your gift is a functional way to have your generosity acknowledged and enjoyed for years.

To adopt a bench contact Landscape Services at (573) 882-4240 or send an e-mail.
