Facilities Feature: Hearnes Center

Location: Southeast corner, Stadium Boulevard and Providence Road

Departments: Hearnes Center administrative offices; Intercollegiate Athletics; Law Enforcement Training Institute; Conferences and Short Courses offices.

A look back: Named for Governor Warren E. Hearnes, the building seats up to 13,500 people and is used primarily for athletic competitions. It also hosts conventions, concerts, conferences and training seminars. The MU men’s basketball team played its first game in the Hearnes Center on November 25, 1972, beating Ohio State 87-75. The arena floor in 2000 was named for Coach Norm Stewart, who compiled a 634-333 record during his 32-year tenure.
