Energy Management wins national award
nergy Management received an honorable mention
in the 1996 Higher Education Awards Program for its wholesale electricity
initiative. The awards program recognizes quality improvements
and cost reductions in higher education programs and services.
It is sponsored by the National Association of College & University
Business Officers (NACUBO).
MU's wholesale electricity initiative involves purchasing
a portion of the campus' electricity from an outside supplier — who
offers electricity at a low cost — rather than generating all electricity
at the power plant. In its first year, the project saved MU $210,000.
Kee Groshong, vice chancellor of administrative services,
accepted the award July 22 in Minneapolis, MN.
